Macao’s average temperature is steadily rising, with the city smashing three average temperature records for the month of April.
According to data from the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, the SAR registered an average monthly temperature of 25.3ºC last month – the hottest April average since data collection began in 1952.
Similarly, the average maximum and minimum monthly temperatures in April were 28ºC and 23.4ºC, also shattering previous records for that month.

Macao is not the only area to have experienced record-breaking temperature. The Hong Kong Observatory reported that Macao’s neighbouring SAR also experienced its hottest April on record, registering a monthly average temperature of 26.4ºC.
Elsewhere in Asia, countries such as the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia are reeling from record-shattering heat waves that have seen temperatures as high as 45ºC.
According to a report published by local meteorologists earlier this year, the frequency of hot days in Macao may increase two fold by the middle of this century. Meanwhile, various international reports have stated that the temperature in 2024 could exceed that of 2023, which was already the world’s warmest year on record.
