Builders have finished work on a new block of almost 1,600 social housing units in northern Macao, located where the former CEM power station was demolished in 2017, the Macau Post Daily reports. The one-and-two-bedroom flats will eventually be available to rent at subsidised rates.
The Avenida de Venceslau de Morais complex sits between the Areia Preta and Mong Ha districts, covering a 11,400-square-metre plot of land. Construction was carried out through two separate tenders.
Pile and foundation work for the project kicked off in 2018, with China Construction Engineering (Macau) taking charge. Once that was done, Ming Shun Construction and Property Investment Limited got started on the superstructure – which was declared complete on Monday.

It’s understood the housing estate came with a total price tag of 1.25 billion patacas, with most of the money going to Ming Shun.
There are 1,590 one and two-bedroom flats in the building, which the Public Works Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials DSOP) has said would also include a ground-level public bus terminal and three levels of underground car parks. The parks would provide space for 500 cars and 338 motorcycles.
Photos released by DSOP show a badminton court in the complex’s garden.
