The latest Covid-19 surge is taking its toll on Macao’s pets as some owners have not been able to care for them after being quarantined.
The Municipal Affairs Bureau reported that it has received requests for assistance of temporary care for 34 pets since 19 June, with some pets having been taken in by their owners’ relatives and friends, while some were taken to the Municipal Kennel.
The pets, the bureau noted, included cats, dogs, hedgehogs, and rabbits. None of the pets showed discomfort or symptoms of Covid-19 after being checked.
The bureau will provide temporary care services if members of the public cannot care for their pets due to being infected by Covid-19 or need to go into quarantine. Owners have been urged not to leave their pets alone at home.
The bureau will send veterinary and animal care staff to collect the animals and take them to an animal quarantine and inspection area set up at the Municipal Kennel to undergo a health check-up, medical observation and receive basic care upon receiving requests for assistance, The Macau Post Daily reported.
