Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Cheong Kam Fai said on Monday during a regular press conference that an unemployed man, surnamed Zheng, was arrested on Saturday for the sexual coercion of his wife – who is divorcing him for the second time – at her flat earlier this month.
According to Cheong, the suspect is a 33-year-old non-resident from the mainland, while his wife is a 28-year-old local resident.
Cheong said the couple got married in 2013 and have three children aged between one and six. Cheong also said that they filed for divorce in 2015 but remarried in 2016. The family was living in mainland until recently.
Cheong pointed out that the wife filed for divorce again last year then moved back to Macao with the three children. According to Cheong, the wife did not tell Zheng where she was living. Cheong added that Zheng only found out where she lived after he met up with their children on 4 September and the children told him where they lived.
Cheong said that on the same day, Zheng showed up at his wife’s flat and begged her to let him stay. The wife said he could stay but must sleep on the couch in the living room, according to Cheong.
The spokesperson said that later that night, at around 11 pm, the suspect barged into the victim’s bedroom and pressed his body against her. Cheong added that the suspect then forced his hand under her shirt and tried to have sex with her by force.
Cheong said that the victim refused and fought hard, after which her husband stopped and left the room. Cheong added that the suspect then left the flat and Macao two days after the incident.
According to Cheong, last Wednesday, the victim told a social worker what had happened and the latter advised her to report the matter to the police, which she did later that day. Cheong underlined that the victim did not have any wounds.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday when he reentered Macao, Cheong said, adding that the matter was then passed on to the Judiciary Police. Cheong pointed out that the case is still under investigation.
