A dog living in one of the city’s locked-down buildings has choked to death, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has announced.

Staff at the IAM kennels received an emergency call at 5:37 pm yesterday from a resident living in Vai Long Building, which is near the Barrier Gate, saying that his dog was unresponsive and required urgent assistance of a veterinarian.

Being in a Red Code Zone under anti-virus strict measures, the resident was not allowed to leave the building. According to the resident who posted his experience on Facebook, after repeated pleas and calls to authorities, they finally arrived at the flat at 7 pm. By then, the dog had already died. IAM kennel staff verified that the dog was in a state of “moderate rigor mortis”.

The owner told the IAM staff that he believed that the dog had choked while eating and suffered from incontinence.

IAM staff found that the opening of the dog’s windpipe was completely obstructed by solid objects, which caused its fatal asphyxia.
