Macao recorded 45 new confirmed Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, according to new criteria employed for assessing the extent of the pandemic.

The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced that in response to the National Health Commission’s announcement yesterday, the current nucleic acid test (NAT) strategy of Covid-19 is voluntary.

As many asymptomatic cases won’t undergo NAT, it is impossible to accurately grasp the actual number of asymptomatic cases, the Centre said. Therefore, the stated number of infections will no longer include asymptomatic cases. Only confirmed cases will be announced.

Positive cases with obvious symptoms and/or pneumonia manifestations will be classified as confirmed cases. People who need to be admitted to isolation treatment facilities of the Health Bureau (including medical observation hotels, the Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane, or isolation wards at Conde São Januário Hospital) will be defined as confirmed cases with Covid-19.
