Economic Services Bureau (DSE) Acting Director Chan Tze Wai said on Tuesday that 50 shops in Taipa and Coloane have joined its second-phase “special features shop programme”, adding that now altogether 100 shops and restaurants are participating in the scheme.
Chan made the remarks during Tuesday’s second-phase launch ceremony for the programme at Carmo Hall in Taipa.
Chan noted that the programme first started in July in Rua de Cinco de Outubro on the peninsula with 50 shops and restaurants, adding that the bureau chose to launch the second phase of the programme in Taipa and Coloane because the two areas have a strong historical background and many unique shops and restaurants.
According to Chan, the programme aims to help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) gain recognition from locals and tourists alike. She also pointed out that the mainland’s “Golden Week” starts tomorrow, adding she believed that the programme could help the “special features” shops and restaurants attract more people during the special holiday.
According to a DSE statement that was distributed during Tuesday’s ceremony, 41 restaurants and nine retail shops in Taipa and Coloane have joined the second phase of the programme. The statement also said that in the first two months of the first phase of the programme, the participants gave positive feedback to the bureau and more shops showed an interest in joining the programme.
