Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Yan said on Wednesday that entrepreneurs from China and Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs) would use a newly-set up federation as a platform to deepen bilateral trade and investment.

Gao made the remarks in a speech at the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Entrepreneurs and Financiers Meeting at Macau Tower.

A co-operation agreement between trade promotion organisations in China and PSCs on the establishment of the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Federation of Entrepreneurs was signed during Wednesday’s meeting.

In her speech, Gao made three suggestions for further deepening bilateral trade and investment collaboration.

“First we should deepen bilateral trade and investment co-operation based on corporate co-operation,” Gao said, adding that the second suggestion was to enhance the standards of trade and investment co-operation, such as through production capacity co-operation which was an important channel to open up a third-party market, and finance co-operation which was important to provide a guarantee for trade and investment co-operation.

The third suggestion was to continue to deepen co-operation between China and PSCs through the Macau platform as in the past 13 years, Gao said, adding that Macau had “lived up to expectations” with the results of the forum by providing high quality language, legal and financial services.

Also during the ministerial conference on Tuesday, China and seven PSCs signed an “action plan” for economic and trade co-operation as well as a memorandum of understanding to promote production capacity co-operation.
