Median monthly employment earnings in the gaming industry amounted to 16,000 patacas in the April-June employment survey released by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) Monday.

The number of gaming industry workers rose by 5,500 in the first quarter to 80,100 in the second quarter, accounting for 20.9 percent of the city’s total employment.

In the construction sector, the media monthly employment earnings stood at 14,000 patacas. The number of construction sector employees rose by 7,000 to 50,900.

Local employees’ median monthly earnings amounted to 15,000 patacas. Median monthly employment earnings of the employed – comprising local and imported workers – stood at 13,000 patacas.

The general unemployment rate – comprising local and imported workers – stood at 1.7 percent. Local residents’ unemployment rate was 2.3 percent. Both rates remained unchanged in the first half of the year.

Macau’s total labour force reached 390,100 in the April-June survey period. Total employment was 383,600, an increase of 2,500 from the March-May period.

The estimated number of unemployed was 6,500 in April-June.

Meanwhile, the government’s Human Resources Office (GRH) said yesterday that the number of imported workers reached 155,310 at the end of June, accounting for 40.5 percent of Macau’s total employment.

While the number of mainland workers nearly reached 100,000, the number of workers from the Philippines exceeded 20,000 for the first time.

The number of workers imported from the mainland was 99,781, or 64.2 percent of the total number of imported labour.

The number of workers imported from the Philippines reached 20,141, including 9,948 domestic helpers. A total of 12,780 workers were imported from Vietnam and 8,612 from Hong Kong.
