Mobile phone imports rise 93 pct in Jan-July

Macau’s imports of mobile phone rose 93.1 percent to 4.08 billion patacas in the first seven months of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said in a statement.

Macau’s imports of mobile phone rose 93.1 percent to 4.08 billion patacas in the first seven months of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said in a statement on Friday.

In July, imports of mobile phone increased 59.9 percent to 331 million patacas year on year.

Gold jewellery imports grew 20.9 percent to 4.33 billion patacas in the first seven months. In July, gold jewellery imports rose 35.9 percent to 678 million patacas.

Total imports increased 24.4 percent to 50.89 billion patacas in January-July, when exports rose 5.6 percent to 7.11 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 87 percent of all exports.

Macau’s trade balance deficit amounted to 43.78 billion patacas in the first seven months.

In July, exports amounted to 917 million patacas, down 17.6 percent, while imports reached 7.54 billion patacas, up 23.6 percent.

Baby formula exports rose 52.1 percent to 423 million patacas in the first seven months, but they fell 59.4 percent to 19.9 million patacas in July.
