Macau’s imports of mobile phones leapt 55 percent year-on-year to 1.03 billion patacas in October, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Monday.
Mobile phone imports in the first 10 months increased 16 percent to 5.39 billion patacas.
Gold jewellery imports dropped five percent to 779 million patacas in October. Imports of gold jewellery rose seven percent to 8.1 billion patacas in the first 10 months.
Imports of watches increased 40 percent to 6.8 billion patacas in January-October.
The total value of exports increased nine percent to 8.1 billion patacas in the first 10 months. Re-exports accounted for 79.6 percent of all exports. Imports rose 12 percent to 73.1 billion patacas, resulting in a January-October merchandise trade balance deficit of 65 billion patacas.
Some 59 percent of Macau’s January-October exports went to Hong Kong. The mainland and Hong Kong accounted for 33 percent and 10 percent respectively of Macau’s imports. Other major markets of Macau’s imports were France (9 percent), Switzerland (9 percent) and Italy (7 percent).
