Mobile phone imports fall 54% in July

Macau’s mobile phone imports fell 54.4% year-on-year.

Macau’s mobile phone imports fell 54.4 per cent year-on-year to 151 million patacas in July, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

According to a DSEC statement last week, mobile phone imports in the first seven months of the year dropped 37.3 per cent to 2.55 billion patacas.

July’s total imports fell 3.2 per cent to 7.2 billion patacas, while those between January and July dropped 2.2 per cent to 49.4 billion patacas.

Exports in July rose 13.6 per cent to 1.0 billion patacas, while those in the first seven months increased 4.7 per cent to 7.4 billion patacas. In July, re-exports accounted for 88.1 per cent of all exports.

Macau’s merchandise trade deficit amounted to 42 billion patacas in the first seven months.

Food and beverages continued to be Macau’s number-one import segment in July, rising 19.6 per cent year-on-year to 1.2 billion patacas, or 17.2 per cent of the total value of imports.

Construction material imports in July fell by 41.1 per cent year-on-year to 103 million patacas. According to the Macau Post Daily, they dropped by 33.2 per cent to 842 million patacas in the first seven months.
