The first local IKEA store will open in Taipa in the first quarter of next year, a statement from the Swedish furniture retailer said on Wednesday.
The brand currently only has a pickup point at Macau Tower for local customers to collect their purchases made through its online website, while customers also can pay extra for home delivery.
The statement did not specify where in Taipa its 90,000-square-foot (8,361-square-metre) store will be located.
According to the Macau Post Daily, Dairy Farm Group IKEA North Asia Managing Director Adrian Worth said that the opening of its first store in Macau marks a “major milestone” in IKEA’s long-term commitment to the city, offering affordable and practical home furnishing solutions to the city’s customers.
“By offering a range of amazing value-for-money home furnishing products, together with our famous Swedish food, we hope to make that vision a reality for the people of Macau,” Worth said.
The store would have “inspirational showrooms”, an IKEA Café, and Swedish Food Market among others.
In addition, it also announced that it is hiring about 100 staff with “expertise in sales, customer relations, logistics, catering, operations management, communications and interior design”, and will hold a recruitment fair at the Ngai Chon Centre of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations (Kai Fong) next month.
