Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac said Wednesday that Macau will further strengthen its partnership with Zhuhai to jointly strengthen the development of the Hengqin-based platform for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
According to a statement by the Secretariat for Economy and Finance (GSEF), Leong made the remarks during a meeting with Zhuhai Communist Party of China (CPC) Committee Secretary Guo Yonghang in Zhuhai .
Leong also visited the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation between Guangdong and Macau (GMTCMPARK) in Hengqin Wednesday.
According to the statement, Leong and Guo both agreed that in order to reinforce the central authorities’ national development strategy, Macau and Zhuhai need to contribute to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), as well as foster the development of the TCM platform in Hengqin, creating new opportunities for residents of the two neighbouring cities.
According to the statement, Leong said that Macau will work closely with Zhuhai to strengthen the development of the GMTCMPARK in line with Macau’s role as “unique international trade window”.
According to the statement, Leong also said that Macau will assist mainland Chinese medicine companies in exporting their products to Portuguese-speaking countries, the European Union and the countries along the “Belt and Road Initiative” route, and also help those companies to get in touch with their foreign counterparts and import products from overseas.
According to the GMTCMPARK website, the Macau and Guangdong governments co-signed the Guangdong-Macau Cooperation Framework Agreement in March 2011. The GMTCMPARK was launched in Hengqin on April 19 that year. The park, which covers an area of 500,000 square metres, is the first project that got off the ground in the Guangdong-Macau Cooperation Industrial Zone.
