Macao’s newest shopping mall, M8, will commence trial operations this September, according to yesterday’s statement from the project’s operator, China State Construction Engineering (Macau).
The company also confirmed that the nine-storey complex would introduce three popular restaurant chains from around Asia to Macao, namely Mango Tree, from Thailand; Modern Shanghai Imperial, from Hong Kong; and Terrace in Seaside, from South Korea.
M8 is located on Travessa do Roquete, just 50 metres from Senado Square in Macao’s historic centre. Luxury travel retailer DFS is set to occupy three whole floors, while fashion brands and dining outlets will also have a strong presence.

China State Construction Engineering (Macau) noted that M8’s opening would mark a significant milestone for the group. “This project is the first urban renewal initiative invested [in], constructed, and operated by [our company],” its statement read.
The ‘M’ in the mall’s name stands for ‘Macao’ while the ‘8’ references the eight world heritage sites within a hundred metres of the complex, including the Holy House of Mercy, Lou Kau Mansion and St Dominic’s Church.
The property has already won a Guinness World Record for its facade material, deemed to be the world’s largest piece of curved stone-laminated glass at 20.45-metres high. It’s also bagged a number of prestigious property market awards.
