The Macao Government’s Talent Recruitment System has received 529 applications so far since it came into effect on 1 July, according to Elsie Ao Ieong, the secretary for social affairs and culture. Only 74 of these applications have been deemed qualified for further review.
Ieong was speaking at a legislative council meeting yesterday. She noted that these numbers came from the recruitment programs to attract talents in the fields of medicine, technology and finance.
During the meeting, she also revealed that programs for recruiting overseas talent in sectors such as arts and sports would be announced in November.

The Talent Recruitment System was introduced on 1 July to attract professionals in key sectors, as part of the government’s long-term plan to diversify the economy away from its overwhelming dependence on gaming.
An e-platform was introduced on 4 August to facilitate applications. In order to be eligible for the program, applicants are required to be 21 years old or above, possess the relevant credentials or experience, and be fluent in Chinese, Portuguese or English.
Financial applicants are also assessed based on their age, family background, and personal accomplishments under a points-based system.
