The Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (known by its Portuguese initials IPIM) backed 153 investment proposals in the first half of this year, according to official figures.

Officials say the ventures created 817 jobs and involved investments amounting to 1.32 billion patacas – more than the full-year figure for 2023. Meanwhile, 46 MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) events were held in the first half of the year, attracting more than 170,000 visitors.

IPIM also hosted or co-ordinated two large events in the first half of 2024, namely, the 2024 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition and the 15th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum. During these events, over 650 business seminars were facilitated and 80 project contracts were signed.

In the second half of 2024, IPIM will continue to hold a number of large conventions and exhibitions, including the 2024 Guangdong and Macao Branded Products Fair this month, the 2024 Global Legal and Sustainable Timber Forum in September, and the 29th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair and the 2024 Macao Franchise Expo in October.

The institute adds that it will cooperate with the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), local higher education institutions and local MICE industry to launch professional MICE training courses, including three certified international professional MICE courses and a number of MICE practical training courses, to boost skilled local talent for the sector.

Later this month, it also intends to lead a delegation to attend the Entrepreneurs Meeting for Commercial and Economic Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in Angola, before going to Mozambique to conduct business exchanges.
