Melco Resorts & Entertainment is turning its Countdown Hotel at City of Dreams Macau into a luxury all-suite tower, with renovations expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2026, Inside Asian Gaming (IAG) reports

The project will see the hotel’s current 330 standard rooms converted into 150 “high-end luxury” suites, each with an average floor area exceeding 90 square metres, according to Melco chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho. It will also be “newly branded,” he told the casino news outlet, though did not say what the name would be.

The Countdown has been closed for renovations since 2021 and failed to re-open as scheduled in 2023.

Originally launched as the Hard Rock Hotel, the property was temporarily rebranded “Countdown” in 2017 – when a prominent countdown clock was installed on its facade, marking the lead-up to the opening of the adjacent Morpheus Hotel. A planned rebranding to “Libertine” was later shelved during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Countdown’s revamp forms part of broader efforts to enhance the City of Dreams complex, IAG says.

In the concessionaire’s second quarter earnings call, Melco International Development’s president and managing director Evan Winkler outlined additional enhancements underway, including the addition of a premium slot area and repurposing of former VIP space into mass gaming floors. A new “clubhouse-style” zone for premium players features a golf simulator and racing simulator.
