Macao’s hotel occupancy rate peaked on the second night of the Labour Day holiday, at 95.1 percent, according to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO). Taking the other four days of the mainland holiday into account, the average rate was 89.2 percent.
Some 605,000 people visited the SAR between 1 and 5 May, 80.6 percent of them from the Chinese mainland.
Another 12.9 percent of them hailed from Hong Kong, 1.3 percent from Taiwan, and the rest from international markets.

The daily average stood at around 121,000, or less than the 130,000 figure forecast by tourism officials. However, it represented a 23.2 percent increase on the same period last year.
It is likely that bad weather played a part in this year’s less than expected arrival figures, with rain and gusty conditions occurring throughout the Labour Day break. The rain was particularly severe on Saturday, when the year’s first black rainstorm warning was issued.
Labour Day is the occasion for a three-day break on the Chinese mainland, unlike the single-day holiday observed in Macao and Hong Kong. When added to the weekend, this year’s Labour Day holiday created a five-day travel opportunity for mainland Chinese tourists.
