Macau can assist mainland enterprises in expanding their businesses in Portuguese-speaking countries and markets along the “Belt and Road” by providing construction-finance matching services, Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) President Jackson Cheong was quoted by Xinhua News Agency.

Cheong made the remarks in a speech at the opening session of the 7th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) at the Venetian.

Macau’s financial sector has been enhanced in terms of regional competitiveness and savings per household, Chang said.

Consequently, Macau has the capacity to perform the role of a networking platform to help mainland infrastructure development enterprises expand their businesses overseas, especially in the regions along the “Belt and Road” initiative and Portuguese-speaking countries, he added.

Themed “Innovating Construction Finance Co-operation and Energizing Infrastructure Development,” the forum focuses on the innovative co-operation models between the infrastructure construction industry and finance sector, thereby creating new business opportunities, according to an IPIM statement quoted by Xinhua.

The Secretary for Economy and Finance Leong Vai Tac said that this is the fifth time that the Forum was held in Macao, and the event has become one of the most influential convention and exhibition activities in the city. Through the objectives, themes and platform role of the Forum, the event this year, with the participation of nine provinces from the Pan-Pearl River Delta region, is in line with the national strategic planning of deepening PPRD regional co-operation.

The two-day event, which ends this Friday, includes two keynote forums and seven parallel panels as well as network symposiums, attracting over 1,400 delegates from government organs, international organizations, contractors, financial institutions and consultancies from around the world.

IIICF, founded in 2010 as an annual event by the China International Contractors Association with the permission of the Ministry of Commerce, serves as a platform of communication, exchanges and co-operation for investment and construction of infrastructure.
