Macao’s casino industry generated a gross gaming revenue (GGR) of 22.61 billion patacas (US$2.8 billion) last month, according to data published today by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

March’s GGR represents a year-on-year increase of 15 percent in comparison to the 19.66 billion patacas (US$2.45 billion) earned during the same month in 2025.

It also marks a jump of 9.65 percent against the 20.62 billion patacas (US$2.56 billion) recorded in February – a particularly busy period due to the Lunar New Year holiday.

Although March is typically considered a slow month in Macao’s tourism industry due to the lack of public holidays, the GGR remained strong during the month, with analysts pointing to the boost from non-gaming events such as the concert by KPop boyban ATEEZ, at The Venetian Arena on 28 March, and US singer Mark Tuan’s Studio City show on 28 March.

Overall, Macao’s accumulated GGR in the first three months of this year came to a total of 65.87 billion patacas (US$8.16 billion), a rise of 14.3 percent year-on-year.

The SAR government expects the gaming sector to generate 236 billion patacas (US$29.4 billion) this year, up 3.5 per cent from the government’s revised 2025 target of 228 billion patacas. Compared to the government, analysts are more optimistic about Macao’s GGR growth in 2026, with S&P Global projecting a year-on-year jump of 3 to 7 percent. Meanwhile, Jefferies anticipates a GGR growth of 5.3 percent.

Even with these more upbeat predictions, Macao’s 2026 GGR will still fall short of the 292.45 billion patacas recorded in pre-pandemic 2019.
