Workers in Macao have more confidence in the job market than they did last year, but still not as much as they did in 2019 – the last year before the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

That’s according to survey data released yesterday by the Institute for Sustainable Development at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).

The annual survey has been held since 2007, the Macau Post Daily reports, with more than 800 employees interviewed for this year’s poll.

The survey’s overall confidence index stood at 2.91 on a scale of 5, an 8.37 percent increase year on year, with the satisfaction index at 2.99 – a 6.43 percent year-on-year rise.

However, confidence and satisfaction have dropped by 2.5 percent and 2.6 percent respectively since 2019, according to Macau Post Daily.

Prof. Sun Liyun from the MUST School of Business told a news conference yesterday that the negative impact of the pandemic on the employment market was still being felt, but employee satisfaction would increase as Macau’s economy continues to improve.
