Macao casinos’ Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) for June dropped 97 per cent year-on-year, according to a release by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ).
GGR for June was down to MOP 716 million (US$89.7 million).
This is the third consecutive month that the revenue has dropped below 90 per cent, and the highest drop so far.
In April, Macao’s GGR fell by almost 97 per cent and in May suffered a drop of 93 per cent.
Macao’s market has fallen by 77 per cent during the first six months of the year, bringing in only MOP 33.72 billion, a significant drop from MOP 149.50 billion in 2019.
Macao casinos closed 2019 with revenues of MOP 292.4 billion.
Macao’s economy has been severely affected by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the gaming, tourism, retail and media sectors in particular.
