Macau’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to 178.3 billion patacas at the end of last year, the Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) said on Thursday.

According to a statement by financial regulator, the foreign exchange reserves increased by 4.3 per cent month-to-month.

According to the Macau Post Daily, Macau’s foreign exchange reserves at the end of last year represented 11 times the local currency in circulation.

The trade-weighted effective exchange rate index for the pataca dropped 0.01 point month-to-month but rose 0.94 points year-on-year to 107.7 last month, implying that the exchange rate of the pataca declined against the currencies of Macau’s major trading partners on a monthly basis but increased on an annual basis, the statement said.
