The inaugural Macau International Comedy Festival is scheduled to take place between 11 to 18 March, according to multiple local media reports.
The event will feature comedic theatrical plays, award-winning comedy films, an awards ceremony and discussion panels about the industry, with guests and performers hailing from Macao, mainland China and abroad.
Among the performances will be A Comedy of Operas, which features a Spanish troupe. Movies to be screened include Hong Kong’s Table for Six (2022) and the Ukrainian film Luxembourg, Luxembourg (2022).

During a press conference for the festival, which was held yesterday at the Macao Cultural Centre, the Cultural Affairs Bureau president Deland Leong said that the upcoming event was part of the government’s concerted effort to diversify Macao’s economy and develop its status as a “city of performing arts.”
Organisers of the Macau International Comedy Festival include the Macao government, the Beijing Damai Cultural Communication Company and the Beijing-based Manhua FunAge comedy film and stage production company – best known for movies such as Goodbye Mr. Loser (2015).
