A one-year-old girl who returned to Macao from Malaysia about two weeks ago tested positive for Covid-19 in a nucleic acid test (NAT) yesterday, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has announced.

The Health Bureau (SSM) has not classified the baby as a confirmed Covid-19 case for Macao, as she had previously been confirmed as a patient in Malaysia before returning here.

According to the centre, the baby is a Macao ID card holder who also lives in Malaysia. She was diagnosed with novel coronavirus in Malaysia on 2 September.

The baby then tested negative for Covid-19 in Malaysia on 23 November. She returned to Macao with her mother the next day via Singapore.

Upon arrival in Macao, the baby tested negative for the novel coronavirus in a NAT, after which she and her mother were taken to the SSM’s Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for medical observation quarantine.

According to the centre, the baby underwent seven nucleic acid tests while in quarantine, all of which proved negative. However she “weakly” tested positive for the novel coronavirus in a test yesterday.

The centre underlined that the SSM has decided not to classify the baby as a confirmed Covid-19 patient for Macao considering that she has previously been confirmed as a patient elsewhere, apart from the fact that she has not come down with any Covid-19 symptoms since returning to Macao, The Macau Post Daily reported.
