The State of Immediate Prevention in Macao officially came to an end at noon today, in accordance with Article 9 of Civil Protection Law No. 11/2020, the Civil Protections Operations Centre announced.

The law states that the chief executive has the authority to declare a state of emergency when necessary based on adverse factors occurring in the city.

Local authorities imposed the status in the early hours of 19 June, after the discovery of 12 positive Covid-19 cases in the community on 18 June, which has brought Macao its worst outbreak since the pandemic began in 2020.

Yesterday, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng lifted all restrictions on the closure of most establishments in town starting today, 2 August.
