Macao government services to close for next two days due to increased Covid-19 risk

The Macao government has announced today that all public services and departments will close between Monday and Tuesday (20th and 21st June) due to the current Covid-19 situation in Macao.

The private sector has not been required to close shop over the next two days as Lo Iek Long, director of the Health Bureau, has said that is a businesses’ decision.

At today’s press conference, health authorities announced that as of 4 pm today, there have been 21 positive Covid-19 detected in Macao. Of the 21 cases, 13 have been asymptomatic and 8 symptomatic. Affected individuals range from 8 months old to 89 years old. So far, the source has not been found.

Of the 21 cases, four individuals have not been vaccinated; three have received one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, five have received two doses and nine have received three doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

At the moment, the positive cases have been divided into two groups: The restaurant group which is mainly composed of 17 people and the second group of 4 people, involving 1 who works at the city’s Correctional Services Bureau and his 3 relatives who meet frequently.

The director of the Health Bureau also said that it’s possible that more cases will be found. The authorities are also following 238 close contacts of the 21 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Between 12 pm to 4 pm today, over 97,500 people have been tested in the city’s mass NATs. So far, 5,000 NATs have returned negative for Covid-19. 

Meanwhile, 993 people are currently under medical observation in hotels, 596 in general medical observation hotels, and 397 in specialised observation hotels. The total includes 488 Macao residents, 59 foreign employees and 446 tourists.
