All arrivals from Hong Kong are required to wait for the results of their nucleic acid test (NAT) at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge checkpoint under new regulations which were introduced yesterday morning.

Getting the results may take up to six hours, according to Health Bureau (SSM) chief Leong Iek Hou, so precautions have been taken to ensure the arrivals remain socially distanced.

Arrivals are then transferred to one of the government’s quarantine hotels if they test negative for the novel coronavirus, or transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for isolation treatment if they test positive. The new measure aims to reduce the risk of Covid-19 spreading in the city’s quarantine hotels.

Prior to yesterday, those arriving in Macao from Hong Kong were not required to wait for their NAT results, and were taken to their quarantine hotels first. Those whose tests came up with a positive result were then transferred from the hotel to the Public Health Clinical Centre, The Macau Post Daily reported.
