Starting next month, higher education staff and students must have been vaccinated twice before they can enter their institution, or face being tested once a week.

Education and Youth Development Bureau Non-Tertiary Education Director, Wong Ka Ki, said the new ruling will take effect from 21 February. Students and staff must demonstrate they have been double-jabbed two weeks prior.

Wong said that the measure would not apply to pupils at non-higher education schools.

According to the latest figures, the vaccination rate of non-tertiary school staff and students who have had at least one dose of the vaccine stands at 88.2 per cent.

About 87 per cent of college and university staff and students have been jabbed at least once.

Some 502,469, people in Macao have been vaccinated at least once; 412,668 have been jabbed twice; and 59,203 have had a third booster shot, according to the latest figures.

Wong said that private continuing education institutions and supplementary education support centres should also implement the new jab-or-test guidelines on 21 February.
