The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is working hard to promote the city to the Indonesian and Malaysian markets, the Macau Post Daily reports. Over the past week, it’s been busy hosting a travel delegation from Indonesia and attending a major tourism exposition in Kuala Lumpur.

Indonesia was Macao’s 5th largest source of visitors overall between January and June this year. The top four slots were taken by mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Malaysia came in 9th, after South Korea, the US and Thailand.

Last week, 19 travel delegates from Indonesia spent five days in Macao. According to a statement from MGTO, the delegates got to experience attractions such as the Macau Grand Prix Museum and a variety of local dishes.

During the Indonesian delegation’s visit, MGTO hosted a networking seminar attended by more than 60 people – including representatives from Macao’s tourism sector. The aim was for people from each place to learn more about the other’s tourism sources, products and industry trends.

Last week also saw MGTO representatives fly to Malaysia to attend the MITM Travel Fair in Kuala Lumpur. While there, they launched what the statement called “distinctive tourism products”. These included the likes of multi-destination tours taking in the highlights of the broader Greater Bay Area. MGTO also offered travel-related prizes to people in the audience during its presentation session.

At the end of this month, MGTO is scheduled to attend the ASTINDO Travel Fair in Jakarta, Indonesia. According to the statement, the fair is expected to attract more than 28,000 people. Exhibitors are set to span tourism destinations, operators, and airlines.
