The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macau announced on Tuesday that mayors from 10 foreign and four mainland cities will visit Macau on August 21-25.
Senior official Li Yang made the announcement at a press conference at the office in Zape.
Li Yang, deputy director-general of the office’s Department of Policy Research, Li Nan, director-general of the office’s Department of Public Diplomacy and Information, and Yang Shijun, director-general of the office’s Department of General Affairs, co-presided over the press conference to the office’s activities later this year.
Li Yang said that the office and the local government would continue to co-organise their “Mayors Visit Plan”, which started last year, adding that mayors from 10 Asian cities such as Cambodia’s Siem Reap, the Laotian capital Vientiane and Myanmar’s Yangon, as well as from Qingdao, Zhuhai, Chongqing and Chengdu have joined the programme.
Li Yang said that the 10 foreign cities are from the countries included in the central government’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative. The five-day visit will include discussions about trade, economic development and tourism, according to Li Yang.
