A Typhoon Signal No. 3 has been hoisted in Macao and will remain in effect throughout the morning as Severe Tropical Storm Trami draws near.

Tropical cyclone Trami is expected to move westward across the South China Sea today and tomorrow, passing to the south of Macao at a distance of about 500 kilometres this morning.

The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials SMG) says that under the influence of both Trami and the northeast monsoon, winds in Macao are reaching force 6 with gusts, and there will be a few showers.

However, the SMG notes that the possibility of significant storm surges is relatively low due to the current low astronomical tide.

According to the current forecast track, Trami is expected to move generally to the vicinity of Hainan Island. However, the subsequent track of Trami remains uncertain, with a possibility of changing to an easterly movement and lingering in the central part of the South China Sea.

The public is advised to pay attention to the latest weather information and take preventive measures in advance. Motorcyclists are also reminded to exercise caution when traveling between the Macao Peninsula and Taipa, and to use the motorcycle lanes on the Sai Van Bridge or the Macao Bridge.
