Four years after it closed its doors to the public, the 13 Hotel in Seac Pai Van, Coloane, has resumed operations in a limited capacity, TDM says.
The broadcaster reports that the financially troubled establishment has not fully reopened due to ongoing renovations. The property’s operating licence is also expected to expire by the year’s end, according to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
Earlier in March, the hotel was put up for sale with a US$307 million price tag by Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) Macau in an auction that was ultimately unsuccessful.
Costing a reputed US$1.6 billion, the 13 Hotel was once dubbed the world’s most luxurious hostelry, featuring 22 floors, as well as 196 rooms. However, the establishment, which was the brainchild of Hong Kong entrepreneur, Stephen Hung, was plagued by multiple delays before it finally opened in 2018.

Multiple factors worked against the property’s success, including its relatively remote location and inability to secure a gaming licence.
As a result, the hotel eventually shuttered its doors in February 2020, with the owners declaring bankruptcy and the parent company, South Shore, being delisted from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2023.
Prior to the announcement of an auction in March, there had been reports that the hotel would be reopening this year, with renovation work taking place, as well as the MGTO renewing its hotel licence.
It is currently not possible to book rooms at the hotel on major platforms such as Agoda, Trivago and Trip.com. However, according to one local media report, bookings will be accepted from September.
