Nine new films produced by Macao-based filmmakers will be premiering at Galaxy Cinema between 27 and 30 June as part of the latest edition of the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s Local View Power programme.
According to a statement published yesterday by the bureau, the films will be showcased through six public screenings, with each of the nine works featuring distinctive stories, styles and genres such as documentary, drama and animation. The films cover themes that include life, growth, child rearing and illness.
Some of the films that will be screened include Tang Chi Fai’s Person Under the Tree, Mak Man Teng’s Before the Downpour and Vitty Ho’s General Parenting Test.

Since 2007, the Local View Power programme has served as an important platform for local filmmakers to distribute their work to a wider audience. In addition to the screening of local films, the initiative also supports Macao filmmakers by offering financial support, as well as mentoring from experienced professionals. The Cultural Affairs Bureau notes that the programme has helped to realise over 150 projects.

Although Macao has attracted various international film productions over the years, its local film scene remains small and relies heavily on subsidies from the government. Officials, however, have become keen to support local film talent, through such initiatives as the Film Arts Training Programme.
