Macau, China, 22 Jul – The private Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) Foundation has obtained a total of 77,538,805 patacas (US$ 9.7 million) from the public Macau Foundation (FM) and the government’s Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) in the second quarter of this year, according to data published in the Official Gazette (BO) Wednesday.
The president of the Macau Foundation’s board of trustees is Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On. His brother, legislator-cum-businessman Chui Sai Cheong, is president of the MUST Foundation’s board of trustees and president of the supervisory board of the Macau Foundation, according to The Macau Post Daily.
Compared to other entities, the MUST Foundation garnered the highest amount of subsidies from the Macau Foundation in the second quarter of this year, amounting to a total of 75.3 million patacas, according to yesterday’s gazette.
According to the gazette, the grants will be used to fund part of the MUST Foundation’s 2010 activity plan, as well as the private university’s "e-Macao" project.
In addition, the MUST Foundation in the second quarter obtained a total of 2.19 million patacas from the government’s Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) for the university’s scientific projects and summer camps.
Meanwhile, the Macau Trade Unions Federation (FAOM) and Macau General Neighbourhood Unions Association (UGAMM) each received 18 million patacas from the Macau Foundation in the second quarter for their annual projects and office operation.
The Macau Workers’ Power Union, headed by the leader of May Day protests this year, Lei Sio Kuan, received 20,000 patacas from the Macau Foundation in the second quarter.
Although Lei’s union had only received 4,000 patacas from the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) in the first quarter of this year, the bureau granted the union 89,300 patacas in the second quarter, according to yesterday’s gazette.
Macau Foundation also granted 5 million patacas to Instituto Internacional de Macau, headed by Jorge Rangel and 4.5 million patacas to Casa de Portugal (Portugal House).
