The Macau government confirmed today the city’s 42nd novel coronavirus (COVID-19) case.
According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, the 42nd case is a 58-year-old self-employed male who is both a Macau resident and Hong Kong resident.
He went to work, on his own, from March 5 to 16 in Bangkok, Thailand. After returning to Hong Kong on the 16th, he went to work at a company located on Hennessy Road in Hong Kong.
On the evening of March 30, he traveled over the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to Macau where he presented as asymptomatic and had a normal body temperature.
At that time, he was arranged to stay at Sheraton Hotel for medical observation according to the quarantine measures of the Health Bureau (SSM).
Today, his nasopharyngeal swab test samples came back positive and he was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.
At present, the patient’s condition is normal, and he has been arranged for inpatient treatment in the isolation ward of Conde de S. Januário Hospital.
Macau’s 42 confirmed COVID-19 cases includes 10 patients – seven tourists from Wuhan and three locals – who have been discharged from hospital. The other 32 cases, all of them imported, have been confirmed since March 15.
Macau’s first novel coronavirus case was registered on January 22.
