Around 500 residents from the Hubei province are still in Macau as of today. Local authorities are trying to find them to be observed clinically and prevent the spread of coronovirus in the territory.
At a press conference held today, the government announced that police authorities had brought 144 Hubei residents to the border to leave the territory. On Sunday the authorities revealed that 1,117 residents from the Hubei province and Wuhan were in Macau.
The Public Security Police also confirmed that no residents from the Hubei province and the city of Wuhan entered Macau today. Residents of Hubei and the city of Wuhan are no longer allowed into Macau unless they have a medical certificate confirming that they are not infected with the coronovirus.
The police indicated that they are carrying out checks in hotels, public and private transports in order to detect the presence of residents of the Chinese province infected by the virus and who are considered to be high risk.
During the press conference, it was reiterated that the 6 confirmed coronovirus cases were Hubei residents and that no resident of Macau had symptoms of the epidemic. According to the health authorities, 4 people from the Chinese province are in isolation because they had been in contact with the infected visitors.
Health authorities also do not exclude new measures to control the epidemic in Macau if the situation get worse. With six confirmed cases of the virus and a population of around 600,000 people, Macau has the world’s highest rate of cases per inhabitant in the coronovirus epidemia.
Visitors to Macau are being asked to fill in health forms upon arriving the city Macau by land, sea or air. Police authorities have also said that the number of visitors to Macau are falling sharply. On Sunday, Macau received 46,000 visitors, 74% less than the same period last year.
