The Personal Data Protection Office (GPDP) said in a statement Monday that it has fined a beauty parlour 110,000 patacas for violating the Personal Data Protection Law concerning the company’s telemarketing.
The statement said that persistent telemarketing by local beauty salons has been “harassing” residents in recent years. The statement said that the office launched investigations into 15 suspected telemarketing cases in the first five months of the year, almost double the number of cases investigated during the same period last year.
The statement said that when handling such cases, the office was facing difficulties in collecting evidence. The statement added that the office decided to shelve some cases because it was unfeasible to continue the investigations, while in other cases the office was able to continue collecting evidence via various channels, including by cooperating with local law enforcement agencies and those outside Macau.
The statement that among the cases which occurred before this year the office has fined a beauty salon 110,000 patacas for having violated the Personal Data Protection Law.
The statement added that because of the ongoing investigations into other suspected telemarketing cases, the office was unable to release further details.(Macaunews)
