Judiciary Police (PJ) Acting Director Sit Chong Meng said on Tuesday that he was in the process of setting up a new unit this year tasked with preventing terrorism.
Sit spoke to reporters after a Spring Festival luncheon for the media at the PJ headquarters in Zape.
Underlining that the fight against terrorism around the world is difficult, Sit said that the Judiciary Police were aware of the menace, and since last year they had been working on setting up an anti-terror prevention unit.
According to Sit, the future unit will engage in anti-terrorism intelligence exchanges with Interpol as well as the police forces of other countries and regions. The unit would also assist the city’s public utilities and other major corporations in strengthening their awareness of the potential threat of terrorism, Sit said.
According to the Macau Post Daily, Sit added that the unit would also assist local government bodies such as the Health Bureau (SSM) and the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) in responding to a terrorist attack.
