Macau’s hotels log 12 million guests last year

Macau 107 hotels and guesthouses welcomed 12 million guests last year, an increase of 13.6 per cent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

Macau 107 hotels and guesthouses welcomed 12 million guests last year, an increase of 13.6 per cent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
Mainlanders, Hongkongers and Taiwanese accounted for 63.4 per cent, 14.8 per ent and 4.0 per cent of all guests respectively.

Guests from the mainland (7.6 million), Hong Kong (1.78 million) and Taiwan (477,000) rose 12.8 per cent, 17.8 per cent and 24.7 per cent respectively.

The number of South Korean guests leapt 34.3 per cent – the highest increase of any major guest segment – to 304,000.

The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses stood at 83.3 per cent last year, up by 1.8 percentage points year-on-year.

Guests’ average length of stay was 1.4 nights, down by 0.1 night year-on-year.

The number of guestrooms rose by 4,000 to 36,000 at the end of last year. Guestrooms of 5-star (22,000) and 4-star (7,700) hotels accounted for 60.1 per cent and 21.2 per cent of the total respectively.

In December, the number of guests rose 11.1 per cent year-on-year to 1.17 million. Mainlanders accounted for 61.2 per cent of the total.
