S4.1 kilo-grammes of cocaine hidden in the lining of her suitcase, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, the drugs have a street value of about 12 million patacas.
After receiving a tip-off that traffickers were planning to smug-gle drugs into the city hidden in the linings of their suitcases, the police strengthened their inspections of arriving passengers’ luggage.
The police stopped the suspect to check her luggage. They found four packets of drugs, wrapped in aluminum foil, concealed in her suitcase.
The spokesperson said the suspect, surnamed Alvarez, is a 26-year-old Venezuelan nurse who travelled to Brazil from Venezuela on September 17. After getting the drugs in Brazil, she smuggled them to Macau transiting in Ethiopia and Bangkok.
Hong Kong was the suspect’s final destination, the spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, the suspect said a drug ring gave her US$2,500 (about 20,000 patacas) for her travelling expenses, adding that she would be paid US$6,000 if she could smuggle the drugs successfully to Hong Kong.
The suspect will be transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further investigation, facing arraignment on a drug-trafficking charge.
