The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted the No.8 typhoon signal today’s morning.

Government offices, schools and many private businesses are closed until the signal is off.

According to the SMG website, Tropical Cyclone Hato is heading towards the Pearl River Delta.

Meanwhile, the local airport announced on Tuesday night the delay or cancellation of 86 flights – both arrivals and departures – due to Typhoon Hato. Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and Bangkok were among the affected destinations.

According to a statement by the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA), the ferry services to and from Taipa Ferry Terminal were suspended after 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

However, ferry services at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal were still operating at 1:20 a.m.

Meanwhile, according to the SMG website, 39°C was recorded in Ka Ho in Coloane on Tuesday afternoon, the highest temperature recorded since 1930.

According to the website, the highest temperature recorded between 1901 and 2016 stands at 38.9°C, which was recorded in July in 1930.
