The Personal Data Protection Office (GPDP) said Tuesday its director Vasco Fong Man Chong has handed his resignation to Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, who has approved it, according to government-owned broadcaster TDM.

Fong was appointed as the privacy office’s director in December 2014 on secondment from the Court of Second Instance (TSI) where he had worked as a judge.

Fong headed the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) between 2009 and 2014, also on secondment from the Court of Second Instance.

Fong’s current term at the city’s privacy office is slated to end on March 12 next year. However, he has requested to return to his position as TSI judge starting next month, to which the chief executive has given his consent, according to TDM. The report did not say why Fong made the request.
