Giant panda papa Hoi Hoi celebrated his 8th birthday with children and “panda fans” at Coloane’s Macau Giant Panda Pavilion on Wednesday, according to a statement by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM).

The statement said the bureau organised a birthday party and gathered about 40 children and “panda fans” to sing “Happy Birthday” to Hoi Hoi, wishing him good health and happiness. He also received a birthday card signed by all attending the party.

The statement also said the bureau used high fibre biscuits and ice cubes of fruit juice as ingredients to make a birthday cake especially for Hoi Hoi.

According to the statement, Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) President Jose Fonseca Tavares and the bureau’s Administrative Committee Member Leong Kun Fong also attended the birthday party.

Hoi Hoi is the proud father of Macau’s first panda babies, twins Tai Pou and Sio Pou who were naturally conceived and born at the pavilion on June 26. Their mother Sam Sam is taking good care of her kids, IACM officials have said. The combination of the couple’s names means “happiness” (hoi sam).(Macau News / The Macau Post Daily)
