Macau MGM Hotel closes

The Macau MGM hotel has temporarily closed to support government measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Macau and in view of the small number of customers.

The Macau MGM hotel has temporarily closed to support government measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Macau and in view of the small number of customers.

The announcement was made by Inês Chan Lou from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) on Friday during the daily press conference.

Macau MGM has 582 rooms.

Inês Chan said that at the moment, 10 hotels with either 3 or 5 star classification, as well as another 18 with lesser qualifications have closed, all of which total 3,700 rooms.

The 28 hotels include the five-star hotels Four Seasons, St Regis, Sofitel Ponte 16 and Altira.

The hotel sector’s average occupany rate has fallen to 16 per cent.

Meanwhile the Macau food and beverage group Future Bright Holdings Limited announced that it will temporarily close down most of its restaurants and shops in Macau and Mainland China due to the CODIV-19 outbreak.
