The construction of Macao Water’s Seac Pai Van water treatment plant in Coloane got off the ground on Monday, according to the Macau Post Daily. The ground-breaking ceremony for the project was held at the site.

The company expects the project to be completed by the end of 2019, the statement said.

The Seac Pai Van water treatment plant is located next to the Seac Pai Van Reservoir – opposite the Seac Pai Van public housing estate and at the corner of Estrada do Istmo in Cotai.

The public utility currently has three water treatment plants – one at the company’s headquarters in Ilha Verde, one at the main storage reservoir opposite the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, and the other on Coloane Hill.

According to the statement, the Seac Pai Van plant will raise Macau’s daily water supply from the current 390,000 cubic metres to 520,000 cubic metres.

The project, covering an area of 17,000 square metres, will cost around one billion patacas, the statement said.

The statement said that the city’s water consumption is forecast to grow by two to four percent annually in the next three years.

Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) Director Susana Wong Soi Man represented the government at the ceremony.

Macao Water is a public concession company owned by SUEZ Asia. The company was represented by Steve Clark, CEO of SUEZ Asia and chairman of the board of directors of Macao Water.
