Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced today that Macau’s 12th, 15th and 31st confirmed novel coronavirus patients were discharged this afternoon and transferred to Centro Clínico de Saúde Pública for a 14-day recovery isolation period.
Macau’s 11th discharged patient – the 15th confirmed COVID-19 case – is the 31-year-old male who had visited Manila from January 28 to March 16. He was taken to Kiangwu Hospital on March 17 due to toothache and itchy skin. His test results came back positive for the novel coronavirus. On the 26th day of hospitalisation, his chest CT scans showed no signs of pneumonia. After antiviral and symptomatic supportive treatment, the patient’s clinical conditions became stable – no fever and no respiratory symptoms. His nucleic acid test came back negative on April 9 and 11, meeting the discharge criteria. The cost of his treatment amounts to around 18,000 patacas.
The 12th discharged patient – the 31st confirmed COVID-19 case – is the 27-year-old male Macau resident who was in New York from December 2 to March 24. He had a fever from March 14-15, then departed from the United States on March 24 and arrived in Macau via Hong Kong on March 25. At the checkpoint entering Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, his fever was detected. Officials gave him the nucleic acid test, which came back positive for the novel coronavirus. On the 19th day of hospitalisation – after antiviral and supportive treatment – the current clinical condition of the patient is stable, without fever or respiratory symptoms. On April 7, the chest imaging was reviewed, showing no signs of pneumonia. The nucleic acid test came back negative on April 9 and 11, meeting the discharge criteria.
The 13th discharged patient – 12th confirmed COVID-19 case – is the 47-year-old male Spanish traveller. The patient departed from Spain on March 15 and arrived in Macau on March 16 via Russia and Beijing. His fever was detected at the airport and he was given the nucleic acid test, which came back positive for the novel coronavirus. On the day of admission, a CT scan of the chest revealed a small amount of fibrosis in the upper left lung. A chest CT scan on March 25 showed pneumonia on the lower right. After admission, he was given antiviral and supportive treatment. He had shortness of breath and was given low-flow oxygen inhalation. On the 28th day of hospitalisation, the patient’s clinical condition became stable, showing no signs of fever or respiratory symptoms. The nucleic acid test came back negative on April 9 and 11, which met the discharge criteria. The cost of his treatment is around 44,000 patacas.
Macau’s last discharged patient was on March 6, a 64-year-old local woman. In total, 13 patients have been discharged – seven tourists from Wuhan, four locals and two non-residents – leaving 32 patients still in isolation at Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre.
Nearly all of Macau’s novel coronavirus cases have been imported, with the second wave beginning March 15.
Macau’s first novel coronavirus case was registered on January 22. There have been no new novel coronavirus cases since April 8.
