Health Bureau (SSM) Director Lei Chin Ion said Wednesday that the city’s public health centres would open this Saturday and Sunday for residents to get their free flu shots.
Lei spoke to reporters after the swearing-in ceremony of newly-appointed Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) Director Lou Pak Sang, at the DSEJ in Nam Van.
According to Lei, the public health centres will be open between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on either day, when residents can get their flu jabs, whether they have an appointment or not.
Lei noted that the bureau last year purchased around 165,000 influenza vaccines concerning this flu season, with about 45,000 still in stock.
According to The Macau Post Daily the free-of-charge flu vaccination is only for residents. Non-locals have to pay for a flu jab, 70 patacas for adults and 100 patacas for children.
Lei said that 53 percent of children under the age of five, 80 percent of pupils in kindergartens, 70 percent of pupils in primary schools and 90 percent of the elderly in care centres have already had their jabs.
He also noted that according to data collected in the past 10 days, there has been a decline in the ratio of flu patients admitted to hospital, which showed that the flu wave is cresting.
