The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) announced in a statement Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with Hong Kong’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) for Hong Kong people to go through easier quarantine procedures than normal for the adoption of greyhounds from the Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd.

A total of eight local animal protection groups Sunday urged the government to ensure that no greyhounds from the Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. will be sent to the mainland as it still does not have an animal protection law, after the closure of the racetrack in Fai Chi Kei later this month.
Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac said Thursday there was no possibility “at this moment” of allowing the embattled Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. the operator of the city’s greyhound racetrack, to use the Fai Chi Kei property for an additional period of time, for the company to finally vacate the plot of land late next month.
The operator of the city’s greyhound racetrack – Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. – said on its website Wednesday that “it is not an easy task” to find new “suitable” homes for the about 600 greyhounds or to arrange for them to be adopted.
The owners of the Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. have been told by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) to submit a revised proposal on the fate of its about 600 greyhounds, government-owned broadcaster TDM-Radio Macau has reported.
SJM Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer Angela Leong said Tuesday that if any of the owners of greyhounds at the local racetrack didn’t want their dogs when it closes for good in July, she could take all of them.
